Subject: PHP 7.4 - 8.x and Beyond
The following message was sent by our staff regarding the above subject:
Hello!
We use a standard Debian Linux kernel package which *may take longer to release some newer software versions*, but also allows for -much greater- software compatibility and more server stability.
Currently, we are using Debian Linux versions 10.x (PHP 7.3) and 11.x which includes PHP 7.4.
Since the inception of our new servers, starting with PHP 7.0 -- minor versions of major PHP releases (7.0, 7.2, 7.3) have been rolled out and replaced each current version (now PHP 7.3). This has had minimal to no effect on our clients, but can sometimes require PHP script changes.
That said, our primary goal is stability. We prefer to keep using stable or older versions for longer than to being on the 'bleeding edge' for PHP.
Newer versions of PHP (8.x+) (Debian 12+) will require even more server and individual (client-end) code and server updates and will be made available in the future.
*** In the meantime, we can also offer a free, direct migration to a new PHP 7.4 capable server.
Please let us know if you are interested and we'll provide full details.
